Archaeological sites integrated into the city

Vaison-la-Romaine currently offers two ancient sites perfectly integrated into the modern city. The first, which includes the ticket office and the museum, extends on the hill of Puymin northeast of the tourist office. The second site is located in the southern district of La Villasse near the post office car park. The research initiated at the beginning of the 20th century by Canon Sautel continued from 1924 at La Villasse (photo) under an 18th-century castle bought by the State to serve as an archaeological deposit. From east to west, the site of La Villasse is occupied by public thermal baths, a paved street lined with shops (Rue des Boutiques), and two vast private residences (The Maison au Buste d'Argent and the Maison au Dauphin).
