Sands and sandstones from the Cenomanian

During the Upper Cenomanian Age, the south of Provence emerged following a global regional uplifting linked to the fault separating Europe from the Iberian-Corso-Sardinian microplate. This part marine part continental period witnessed the formation of slightly kaolinitic siliceous white sands and generally white but sometimes red quartzite sandstones. These minerals participated in shaping the forms and colors visible in the Massif des Ocres of the Luberon Regional Nature Park.
