The landscapes of the Massif des Ocres of Luberon are semi-natural. They result from a double process of geological alteration of their iron-rich marine minerals highlighted by human activities linked to the exploitation of old ocher quarries. Many fairy chimneys were created in the area by the differential erosion between the hard caps of silcrete and softer layers of ocher.
