On the island of Rurutu, in the Austral archipelago, the pandanus leaves are braided to form rolls of 'pae'ore' which will especially be used as supports for the belts of the Tahitian dance costumes. The braiding can also be adorned with pieces of mother-of-pearl, pearls, seeds, shells according to the artist's imagination.
