Although all of glacial origin and located in altitude, the forty or so Corsican mountain lakes present a wide variety of environments and stages of evolution. Little affected by human action, they are true environmental observatories by keeping in their sediments the memory of the climatic events and of the evolution of their vegetal environment since their formation 15,000 years ago .
