The southern terrace of Sedan Castle was created in the 16th century alongside the gigantic reinforcement works which increased the thickness of the north-eastern and north-western walls from 4.5 to 26 metres. On the right, in the foreground, one of the two twin towers formerly topped by roofs and a corbelled walkway. These towers framed the original entrance to the castle built between 1425 and 1430 by Evrard II de La Marck, the new lord of Sedan. From 1530 onwards, a princely dwelling of around 100 metres in length was built on the inside of the south-western rampart.
