The salt marshes of Vieux Salins cover an area of approximately 865 acres (350 ha) in the Var department. They extend behind the beaches of Hyères they border for nearly 1.86 mi (3 km) towards the coastal town of La Londe-les-Maures. The Vieux Salins constitute a wetland with irregular divisions and remarkable ecological potential. Protected since 1996, they have been recognized as a Ramsar site since 2008.
