Salt marshes the size of Paris

The vast expanses of the Salins du Midi in Aigues Mortes are located just a stone's throw from the Grau du Roi Port Camargue. This significant space extending between the city walls and the sea has existed since the Middle Ages. The salt marshes cover an area equivalent to the twenty arrondissements of Paris and are particularly conducive to fauna and flora, such as colonies of pink flamingos. The famous salt of Camargue is harvested between August and early October. The production is then stored in the form of large heaps called camelles.
