The half-timbered house is typical of Alsatian architecture. The inclination of its roof at 45 degrees remains a local specificity. The facades of the houses are often painted with vivid colors. They initially served to distinguish the different trades that practiced in the same village. The bakers' and pastry chefs' houses were yellow. The cream color was the masons' and stonemasons'. Red was the color of the iron and metal trades. Finally, buildings dedicated to the Virgin Mary displayed blue.
