The Auvergne lakes are particularly different from each other, as much by their origin as by their size, altitude, and environment. The region is sprinkled with lakes of volcanic origin, like crater lakes or maars, such as Lake Servières, and volcanic dam lakes. Numerous lakes of natural origin, born from rivers, and created artificially to serve as dams or reservoirs, also extend in Auvergne.
