Groups organized around harems

A harem of Przewalski horses (Equus ferus przewalskii) consists of a few mares closely linked to their offspring but also emotionally united to each other. It also relies on a stallion that brings together and protects the group against aggressions and outsider males. The limited number of preferential relationships within the harem contributes to its cohesion over time. The Monts d'Azur Reserve has a small harem of four to five individuals and a large harem of around fifteen horses.
