The Gorges du Gouleyrous are a natural site mostly visited by locals in the Pyrénées-Orientales department. About 18.65 miles (30 km) northwest of Perpignan at the foot of the Catalan Pyrenees, they are part of the largest climbing area in Roussillon and are also adapted to hiking. Within the gorges, the cliffs of Vingrau are renowned in the climbing world as they are home to nearly 400 practicable climbing routes. The Gorges du Gouleyrous are overlooked by the Caune de l'Arago, a prehistoric cave where the remains of Tautavel Man were discovered in 1965.
