In Champagne, forest areas alternate with vineyards. They are fundamental in attenuating strong winds and protecting the vines. Meanwhile, the forests provide quality wood to coopers. They also play a role in land drainage through the roots of the trees. The Montagne de Reims Regional Nature Park includes three estate forests – Verzy, Hautvillers, and Sermiers (Chêne à la Vierge) – which have been awarded the “Outstanding Forest” label, like fourteen other emblematic forests in France.
