Stirrups inherited from the 15th century

The Camargue gardian (herdsman) has stirrups with reel or turnstile in the shape of a cage inherited from the time when, also a peasant, he wore clogs. The clogs then had to fit inside the stirrups, the shape of which today avoids that the gardian's feet remain hooked in the event of a fall and allows him to free himself easily. These stirrups, which date back to the 15th century, also allow the straps that connect the stirrups to the saddle to accompany all the movements of the leg without undergoing twisting but are difficult to catch back while riding. The old Camargue stirrups were cut from a single piece of metal shaped in the forge.
