Wading birds with distinctive colors

The pink flamingo is a wading bird with a long, slender silhouette and a more or less pronounced pinkish-white color. The bird's long and thin legs, also pink in color, allow it to move with ease on the salt marshes of the Camargue region, where a large number of specimens live freely all year round. The flamingo's thick, curved beak is unique in the ornithological world as it filters water and mud when the bird is feeding. The distinctive color of flamingos comes from the high presence of carotenoids in the crustaceans and algae on which those tall birds feed.
