At the heart of the Lorraine Regional Nature Park, Madine Lake's 2,718 acres (1,100 ha) are home to more than 250 bird species. An ornithological observatory included in the landscape allows observing them without troubling their tranquillity. Ducks, swans, black-headed gulls, crested lapwings, ospreys, and falcons create a multitude of shapes and noises over the lake's protected waters. Twice a year, migratory birds such as geese and common cranes rest at Madine Lake on their route to warmer countries.
