The construction of a racetrack allowed the Cité de l’Automobile-Collection Schlumpf (City of Automobile-Schlumpf Collection) to double its surface area from 4 to 8 hectares. The racetrack also introduced an open-air theatre into the museum complex. The Mulhouse Museum was the first cultural institution to create a racetrack. It can accommodate 4,500 people in its grandstands. Shows and animations around the automobile as well as parades of the museum’s most prestigious cars are organised on its three rings. It is also a venue for various car collectors’ clubs and associations.
