In the Rustrel and Roussillon sector of the Massif des Ocres in Luberon, the outcrops of ocher sands are topped with siliceous or ferruginous cornices often displaying a characteristic rusty color. Their richness in silica or iron gives them significant resistance to erosion, allowing them to protect the underlying geological layers.
