Beyond obvious technical skills, the practice of kitesurfing requires a good appreciation of the direction and force of the wind. Onshore and cross-onshore sea winds or onshore crosswinds offer the best conditions for kitesurfing, while the other directions (offshore, cross-offshore) require certain expertise and intensive training. The flat zone extending over 1,312 ft (400 m) and protected by a coral reef as well as the constant wind from Pointe Faula are conducive to the practice of this discipline demonstrated here by the Martinican champion Mickael Neral.
