Horses inseparable from the Norman landscapes

The Norman landscapes are always associated with horses present in varying degrees in the five Normandy departments of Calvados, Eure, Manche, Orne, and Seine-Maritime. The regions most marked by horses in terms of density and reputation are the north of the Pays d'Auge in the hinterland of the Côte Fleurie (Flowery Coast) and Deauville, the Merlerault and Perche countries in the south of the Pays d'Auge, and the bocages of the Manche department. The first two offer stud farms an environment of hills bordered by forests and grassland bocages ideal for training in trotting, galloping, and horse racing. On the other hand, the tighter bocages of the Manche department host smaller farms dedicated to trotting and saddle horse.
