Thoroughbreds are the best-known breed of so-called warm-blooded horses, otherwise known as near-blood horses or blood horses. These saddle and sport horses are renowned for their speed, endurance, liveliness, nervous temperament, and emotional character. The French language distinguishes three blood groups to classify horses: warm blood, cold blood, and half-blood, which corresponds to the crossing of the two previous groups.
