The grape variety is the variety of a vine or grape stock. The vine reserved for the manufacture of wines belongs to the Vitaceae (climbing plants) botanical family. It comprises ten varieties, among which only the Vitis genus matters for wine-growing. This genus itself consists of the two Vitis Muscadinia and 'Vitis Euvitis sub-varieties. Among the 36 subspecies of the Vitis Euvitis genus is the Vitis Vinifera, considered to be at the origin of the best grape varieties in the world. The grape varieties intended for winemaking are almost exclusively grapes with white flesh, of which only the skin color varies.
