A protected duck since 2014

Almost all terrestrial aquatic environments, like the Longemer Lake, are colonized by the mallard Duck, with a preference for shallow water. However, they have been on the Red List of Endangered Breeding Birds in Alsace and Vosges since 2014. The male is easily recognizable with his shiny green head and neck. A white collar separates it from the brown of his chest, and his bill is lemon yellow. The female is very different, with all brown plumage. However, they both share a blue mirror feather on the wing.
