Breakwaters imagined by Churchill
0
0
The port infrastructures essential for the landing of the Allied forces on French territory were impossible to take during World War II. Winston Churchill, therefore, had the intuition to launch a project to build artificial harbors like the one in Arromanches-les-Bains bearing the name of Mulberry B. In less than nine months, the British engineers built all the elements necessary for assembling these ports on French waters. A few dozen Phoenix breakwaters keep providing calm waters in Arromanches-les-Bains to this day.
