Like many other African herbivores, giraffes are often associated with oxpeckers. These birds feed on parasites they find on their hosts, such as ticks, and sometimes on the blood of their wounds. Vigilant and noisy, they also warn mammals from potential dangers. Medium and large sized mammals immediately react to their alarm calls.
