From straw bales to linen ribbons

Flax is a particularly technical culture that requires know-how and passion. Examined by experts and deemed neither too wet nor dry to be harvested, the straw bales arrive on the scutching line. The process would allow unwinding them and finding out if the fibers would be long enough for textiles and if their straw and wood gangues would come off easily. The string that held the straws in bundles is recovered as the unwinding progresses. The scutching inaugurates a long process resulting in golden ribbons, thin as hair, that make the reputation of the Terre de Lin cooperative.
