The influx of pilgrims to the site of Notre-Dame-de-Victoire Chapel from the 1660s gave rise to considerable financial, human and material developments. The southern cliff of the Sainte-Victoire mountain notably underwent a crenelated cut to let the sun in, and a horizontal esplanade was filled thanks to the rocky debris from the breach. A water cistern and an imposing entrance porch were also built, while a surrounding wall in dry stones was erected. Finally, gardens were created on the slopes of the mountain and at the foot of the cliff for the subsistence of the monks.
