Suffolk lambs

All around the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, there are just eleven farmers producing “Mont-Saint-Michel salt meadow lambs”, labelled PDO. The lambs raised by Yannick Frain and his son Alexandre are all descended from the sturdy Suffolk breed sheep. In winter, their herd of 1,200 ewes spends the day in the salt meadows and returns to the sheepfold in the evening. When the grass is less nutritious, their nutrition is supplemented with cereals and hay cultivated on the farm. In summer, the herd returns to the sheepfold only once every two weeks.
