Ectothermic, the Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni hermanni) continually adapts its metabolism to the ambient temperature depending on the season but also on the time of day to optimize its activity. Its night shelter changes every day, and the tortoise leaves it in the morning as soon as it is warmed up. It goes in search of food before spending the hottest hours in the cool in the bushes and coming out at the end of the day.
