The monastery of Notre-Dame de Clémence in the Maures Massif is a former 12th century Charterhouse. Its architecture, grouped inside a high wall, was designed to promote the life of prayer in solitude and silence of the Carthusian monks until the 18th century. The monastery later welcomed the nuns of Bethlehem, the Assumption of the Virgin, and Saint-Bruno from 1983. The enclosure wall, pierced by a monumental door in Maures serpentine, symbolizes the break with the outside world of those who have chosen to devote themselves exclusively to God.
