The municipality of Septmoncel-les-Molunes covers an area of 24.7 square miles (39.91 km2) at an average altitude of 3,084 feet (940 meters) in the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park and its spruces. It is populated by 834 inhabitants which represents a density of 21 inhabitants per km². The well-preserved Les Bois Fous estate (photo) of the musher Pierre Daniel is a good example of the possible isolation of housing and of the local economic fabric made up of small businesses mainly in commerce and services.
