Demonstrating William's royal legitimacy
0
0
The first part of the Bayeux Tapestry relates the events prior to the conquest of England and seeks to demonstrate William's legitimacy to the throne of England. It shows the capture of Harold, brother-in-law of the King of England, by Guy de Ponthieu, and his rescue by William. The Duke of Normandy made him take an oath to support him during the succession to the throne of England. Finally, the tapestry depicts the coronation of Harold on the death of King Edward the Confessor.
