Delimited by granite rocks and buoys

Hercynian granite rocks outcrop on each side of the small harbor of Barfleur. The channel is delimited by flashing buoys that signal the rocks to avoid, and two lighthouses mark the entrance to the port itself. That of the west pier is 26 ft (8 m) high, while that of the east pier rises to 13 ft (4 m). They both have a range of 6 nautical miles. Extending over 148 acres (60 ha), Barfleur is the smallest town in the Manche department, but it is also listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France.
