In Celtic times, Mont Sainte-Odile was called Altitona, the “high mountain”. It was already a place of worship. Today it is a location of pilgrimage and memory. It stands inside the enclosure of a pagan wall and comprises constructions built from the 8th to the 20th century. The site contains a 26-sided sundial from the 18th century. It was conceived by Cistercian monks from the Monastery of Neubourg. It is a geographical sundial that indicates the times of different cities and places of the world.
