The Alsatian site of Tellure mining park was created over a silver mine existing since 1549. It can be visited through a via ferrata established in 2009. Visitors can explore numerous speleology itineraries and dozens of galleries, all hand-dug by miners from the Middle Ages. The massive Saint-Jean's Column descends over more than 328 ft (100 m) there. It constituted the largest silver vein ever discovered in the region and was entirely emptied of its ore by the miners.
