The Saint-Jacques-et-Saint-Philippe (St. James and St. Philip) church in Lentilles (Aube) is one of the finest examples of timber-framed churches in Champagne. The facade is covered with a cladding of essentes and “tavaillons” of chestnut wood. The 16th century church is dedicated to Saint James, whose stone representation is proudly displayed in the central bay of the porch. The saint is holding a pilgrim’s staff in his left hand, an incentive for the parishioners to join the many pilgrims on the Way of St James.
