Dedicated to the Virgin Mary

Like Notre-Dame-de-Paris, Reims Cathedral is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The first cathedral of the city dates back to the 5th century. Around the year 400, a greek bishop named Nicaise placed a cathedral dedicated to Mary Mother of God in the heart of Reims. Today, Notre-Dame-de-Reims is a major site of Gothic art in France, both for its architecture and the 2,303 statues peppering its structure. The Virgin and the different moments of her life are omnipresent in the statues and the stained-glass windows.
