The parish church in Sainte-Agnès was rebuilt in the new village in 1575. It was dedicated to Notre Dame des Neiges (Our Lady of the Snows) to commemorate a miracle of the Virgin. She would have provoked a snowfall on August 5th on Esquiline Hill in Rome on the very site where the Basilica of Saint Mary Major was to be erected. The cities of Marseille in France and Trois-Pistoles in Quebec also house a church dedicated to Notre Dame des Neiges.
