In the 11th century, Robert the Magnificent, Duke of Normandy (1027-1035), survived a shipwreck and built a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin. Remodeled and enlarged from the 13th century, it is part of the Priory of Bourg-Beaudouin and depends on Sainte-Trinité Abbey in Fécamp. After the French Revolution, the chapel became Notre-Dame-du-Salut (Our Lady of Salvation). Destroyed by German bombings in 1942, its bell tower was rebuilt and adorned with a golden Virgin and Child. Not a fishing boat leaves the port of Fecamp without having sounded the trumpet three times in honor of the Virgin of Cap Fagnet.
