Soil ploughing

‘Décavaillonnage’ consists of ploughing the soil between the rows of vines. The plough turns over the soil at the foot of the vines in order to eliminate weeds at the end of the winter; indeed, their presence tends to facilitate spring frosts and prevent a good state of health. But it is a delicate task to carry out, as there is a risk of damaging the vine. Precisely, the horse feels the roots with its hooves and stops before pulling them out. In addition, unlike the wheels of a tractor, it does not walk in the same place all the time, which means that the soil is less compressed and more aerated.
