The biodiversity of natural environments is very rich in Champagne. More than 4,000 species have been identified in all the natural areas of ecological interest. The forests, parks and gardens are home to varieties specific to the Marne. In no particular order, let’s mention the Bouzy-Bouzy iris (Iris barbata), which is the colour of wine, the “La Marne” rose (Rosa multiflora) and the “Victoire de la Marne” peony (Paeonia lactiflora), created in 1915. The dry, chalky soil also favours orchids, such as the red cephalanthera (Cephalanthera rubra) or the burnt orchis (Neotinea ustulata).
