First visits during the Fourth Republic

René Coty (1882-1962) and Vincent Auriol (1884-1966) were the first French presidents to stay at the Fort de Brégançon during the Fourth Republic. Back then, the fort had not yet become the official holiday residence of the President of the French Republic. They were welcomed there on an unofficial basis by Robert Bellanger, an industrialist and politician who rented the militarily unlisted fortress from the French State between the two World Wars.
