The current sanctuary of Notre-Dame de Beauvoir - formerly called Notre-Dame d'Entreroches because of its rocky location above Moustiers-Sainte-Marie - is said to be built over a primitive chapel commissioned by Charlemagne in the 9th century. The oldest records of its existence date back to documents from 1113 and 1135, when it still only included two Romanesque spans in the front completed in the 16th century by two Gothic spans further to the rear.
