Numerous figures of unknown importance

Among the 626 people represented on the Bayeux Tapestry, some are named but their importance is still unknown. Besides historical figures such as William the Conqueror, Harold Godwinson, Edward the Confessor, or Odon of Bayeux, Ælfgyva is the only female figure named on the Bayeux Tapestry. In addition to being one of three women out of 626 characters represented, she is the only one to benefit from a written mention. The roles of other characters mentioned on the tapestry also remain unclear, such as Knights Wadard and Vital or the dwarf Turold. Moreover, the end of the tapestry has been lost or has remained unfinished, though all scholars agree that it should find its epilogue in a scene presenting the coronation of William the Conqueror in England.
