At the heart of the Lorraine Regional Nature Park, Madine Lake has a vivid light at dawn. It extends far from areas of light pollution, and the morning contrasts are particularly marked there. Its 2,718 acres (1,100 ha) are home to more than 250 bird species that awaken at first light. An observatory platform on the landscape allows their observation without disturbing them. The lake's shape also forms numerous small arms looking like wild fjords. In addition to the avifauna, Madine Lake and its nooks shelter more than 40 mammals species, including carnivores, bats, and rodents.
