From Millaures to Mont-Dauphin

The plateau on which the stronghold of Mont-Dauphin was built in the Hautes-Alpes department took the fort's name following its construction. Previously swept by a thousand winds, it was named Millaures. For a few years, between 1793 and 1814, the site was baptized Mont-Lion before regaining its previous name. The stronghold was called Mont-Dauphin in reference to the eldest son of Louis XIV, Louis de France (1661-1711), known as Monseigneur and then as the Grand-Dauphin after his death, but also because it was located in the Dauphiné.
