Until the beginning of the 20th century, Biot was the capital of pottery before refocusing on agriculture (vineyard and horticulture). The village changed aspect in the 1970s with the development of outlying districts following the establishment of part of the Sophia Antipolis technology hub on its territory. At the same time, art and craftsmanship flourished, contributing to the fame of the village where Fernand Léger, Raymond Peynet, and other artists settled.
