In ocher quarries, the compacted ore is extracted thanks to mechanical shovels. It is then evacuated by trucks to a washing area, where a mixture of ore and water is sent to a thickener separator by a pump with a pressure of 1.1 lbs (500 gr)/cm². Under the action of the centripetal force, the almost dry sand falls, and the ocher water overflow is directed towards the settling basins by a pipe.
