A very promising new year

The year 2020 has been particularly difficult, starting with a total loss of income for ecotourism in Vohimana. Fortunately, support from the National Museum of Natural History of Paris has enabled the NGO to pay local guides to ensure ecological monitoring while waiting for visitors to return. The crisis also prevented for several months the arrival of forest control teams in the field. The association was able to continue its work. However, outside the reserve the situation was dire with dozens of hectares of forest gone up in smoke and dozens of lemurs perishing.
The situation is gradually returning to normal. Despite 2020 being marked by the global pandemic, the association is pleased with the results obtained on the ground in favor of the preservation of lemurs and local biodiversity in general. Indeed, since March 2020, nearly 450 forest patrols have been carried out. 13 tons of ginger seeds have been distributed and 50kg of Ravintsara essential oils have been produced. Two bungalows are under construction and renovation work on the restaurant and sanitary facilities began very recently, after the reopening of national roads in Madagascar. These results are very promising for this new year!
