In the middle of vines

The municipality of Verzenay holds an 82 ft terrestrial lighthouse (25 m) immersed in the middle of the vineyards. Joseph Goulet built it in 1909 to promote his champagne wines. The lighthouse formerly hosted celebrations in its dance hall and its restaurant. The First World War put an end to this success, and the lighthouse went out for several decades until its renovation between 1994 and 1999. At the top of the monument, a 360° panorama opens on the vineyards after climbing 101 steps. The lighthouse of Verzenay celebrated its 110th anniversary in 2019.
